It happens every year. “The first day of Fall” comes and then we expect the weather to get cooler. We expect a weather change each time the season changes and that does not work. It is as silly as the expectation that we change our clothing based on Memorial Day and Labor Day. The basic weather changes are not geared to silly dates on the calendar. Some changes can be loosely related to the seasons, but remember that those were determined by people and do not really coincide to anything in nature. All nature really cares about are the changes in plants and animals that are related to the weather and the natural conditions that exist at any one moment. How many times do we have plants bloom and then before the flowers can turn to fruit it will freeze and the flowers drop off? Think of the times that it froze and all of the fruit that are just waiting for picking are ruined before they can be picked.
Just look at the typical year when just after Labor Day and then school starts it becomes unbearably hot and impossible for students to learn. Think of that, the need to have air conditioners in schools when it is fall and not summer school. This year in Los Angles is a prime example and probably closer to the normal then most people what to admit. On the first day of fall it is overcast and some places may be seeing light drizzle. This coming weekend it is expected to reach 103 in the valleys of California and that may not be a record high.
We must expect that the weather is always changing and that when we see the average temperature for any day that it is really just an average and consists of all the temperatures including the record highs and record low highs. We all have our favorite weather and if it is different no matter what, then we are happy and we make fun of everyone else and what they enjoy. So I will enjoy the overcast this morning and the hot weather to come this weekend and just wait for the rain that might come later in the year.
All that I can do is make sure that the drains are clear and that I have a hat to wear when it is needed.
