The Weather Or What?

What is it with the hurricane predictions? Every year they tell us how strong of a season we will have usually at the beginning of the year and before any of the actual weather patterns have formed. They seem to want to scare the people on the Gulf Coast and to make the rest of us give more money to the charities that will be covering that area. It is really impossible to tell what the weather will be in this area that long in the future. If they are wrong and the season is mild they tell us that we were just lucky. On those rare occasions when we do have a severe season, then they can gloat. They will never really get it 100% and we just will have to keep watching and waiting. Going to Mardi Gras is always a good way to celebrate February and just think there will be a good chance that your trip is extended because of a weather problem while traveling.
The fact is that no one really knows what will happen with hurricanes. They usually start near the African coast and then travel across the Atlantic Ocean and we do not know what will occur with any storm. They can travel all the way to the coast of Mexico and they can just turn and travel up the east coast of the United States. These travels are affected by the same weather that causes the dry or wet years on the west coast and are not always reliable indicators of where the weather will travel.
Sometime in the future they may be able to control the weather. I do remember watching some TV program that made it sound like absolute fact that we would be able to control the weather. In fact they showed us a control center that was moving storms around so that the weather came at predictable and acceptable times of the day. They showed a storm being moved so that it would rain during the night and make travel to and from work easier. As an aside I wondered how those people who work at night felt about that concept.
Weather will always be one factor that we will have to consider when we deal with the most mundane parts of our life. It is not just the day of a big celebration that we must think about, but just a trip to the store. All things are affected by the weather. If you are holding a big party, you must think about the heat or rain if you want a part of that party in your back yard. It is especially impossible to actually predict the weather if you are working on an event that will occur next month or even more so next year. I do not see any major change in the situation in the near future. So let them guess, I mean predict, all they want we will have to live with the reality of the events when they actually occur.
