Las Vegas seems to be the city that everyone loves to hate. Many people l have told me that they hate the city. It is a big city and that makes many people upset. I can only find one thing that I do not like about the city as a whole. The casinos still allow smoking. The minute that I enter I start to cough because I no longer have any resistance to cigarette smoke. I even ignored the store with all of the great cigars. The hotel were we stayed was totally no smoking. Most of the world has given good health the edge to the addiction of the few. The fact is that most of the people gambling were not happy because they were not winning. It is still a fun atmosphere and being in the city when it was not hosting a major convention made travel much easier. I do like many of the places that are not associated with gambling. The atomic bomb museum is actually educational and fun to visit. Hoover Dam is covered in another post since it is so large and now includes a majestic bridge that will make it easier to visit. Being a major fan of rapid public transit I will recommend taking the monorail to visit some of the places on the strip. This may not be the complete solution to the traffic problems but it is a start and if they do the entire planned route it will make it so much more fun. A connection from the airport to the strip and to Fremont Street (downtown) would be great. For now it only connects the MGM to the Rivera and all between on that side of the strip. Do see a show at one of the big hotels. They are expensive but several sources are available to get discounts on the tickets. I went to see Chris Angel and enjoyed the new twists on some classic illusions. Do expect pyrotechnics and extreme lighting. I personally would wear hearing protection and not bring young children (under 10) because of the sound levels and the strobe lighting. It is an adult show with content that some would not want any of their children to hear. I have only seen a couple of Chris Angel’s TV shows and the stage show is much better. Not just his attitude but the content is more entertaining. Circus De Sole seems to have influenced every show in town including this one. My technical minded son even found many things that he liked, despite his trepidations about seeing the show. If you plan on visiting the city I will let you know where I recommend that you stay. It is a hotel that is not on the strip and in fact is only opened about three weeks ago. Besides the desk clerk told us were to find the cheap show tickets. Do not let your conception of the city stop you from visiting and seeing the really great parts of that area.
