I live in an area that is always close to disaster. If it is not an earthquake it is a fire, a mud slide, or very hot temperatures. Today we are watching a fire. It has become the number one story for most of the news organizations across the country. It should be nice to be the center of the world – but is only true when you talk about the Emmys or the Oscars. Our main concern here is the massive smoke cloud that covers all of the Los Angeles area. Some residences in my area are in much more danger, then I am. Now we are watching the fire cover so much area that it covers more area then a large city. We watch the TV stations cover this event and see the little digs that they make at each other. Now the main concern is if we will have "over the air" TV for much longer, since the fire is very close to the top of Mt. Wilson, which is the area that contains the transmitters for the Los Angeles area. The concern becomes of importance since many forms of communications are involved including FM radio, emergency communications and TV. The TV stations will need to communicate with the cable companies to continue to broadcast – but that does not help those who only use the over the air signal of the stations. The most important thing that most of us will face is that smoke. It is difficult to breath at times and the fact that many people have breathing problems without this added irritant is a factor of life in this area. We can work to eliminate the smog and we can clean up how we live our lives. We try all of the time to make our city cleaner and healthier. This situation is harmful to all of us, from the little inconvenience that it causes to the school sports teams, to the major problem for the young and those who need clean air to live.
You may ask...Why do we live here?
It is the average day, when no one is talking about us, that makes us love it so much.
