What do you do when you enjoy a movie and yet you know that the technical aspects look very amature? You are watching the movie and all of a sudden the camera is shaking. You can not concentrate on the screen because all your brain knows is that despite the lack of movement of the actors or the location the camera is moving. When two people are sitting and talking you do not expect the flutter of the camera. If they were in a moving vehicle it would be different, but when they are just sitting and talking it seems that it would be more natural to just show the scene and not make it move. I was wondering if just maybe the ADA had gone a little too far. I can understand that it is a proper goal to hire those with handicaps. Just maybe they should be given aids to hide their handicap. In this case maybe a tripod or a steady cam would have been an aid.
If you have not seen the movie I am referring to the Borne Ultimatum. It was filmed in several areas of the world and seemed from the credits to have actually used the named locations. The movie seems more about the action then the story. It does have a story and it does come to a conclusion. Unfortunately I have read the entire book series and I have a prejudice in favor of reading the book and thinking of the book as different then the movie. Fortunately for the movie going public they do not include every element of the book in the movie or it would go on forever. I know that most reviews of movies go into the acting but this type of movie depends on believing that the action could take part as shown and that the actors could survive. It does stretch my imagination and I have high regards for the stunt people (the list was over 50 names long) who did most of the work making this movie. It seems that the named leads in the movie spent less time on the set then the stunt actors.
It is possible that I missed some of the movie because I had become distracted by the technical aspects. That may be why I found the best scene was a quiet part with the hero telling his antagonist that he had completely fooled him and was at that moment in the antagonist’s office.
MY RATTING:
Technical - C-
Action - A
Acting - B+
Overall - B
