Going back to our history we must remind people that gold was actually discovered here before it was found in northern California. The people in the north do not want to be reminded of this because then no one would visit Sacramento and Sutter’s Fort, because no one really wants to go to Sacramento for any time at all. Especially when the legislature is in session. Placerita Canyon is a very scenic area and it also had a great nature center to see, after you have been to the Oak of the Golden Dream, where the actual gold discovery was made.
Oil was here also and the first refinery in California is located near downtown Newhall (It is easier to find it that way, because we don’t call it downtown Santa Clarita). It was a very pure form of petroleum and was actually sold as it was pumped and before gasoline was popular. I think that we should try to find more. Than we would be able to declare ourselves a new state and get more for the oil. Then we would not need to tax residents and pay us all a portion of the income as a rebate for living here.
One of the nice reasons for living here is the ability to see what parts of the country we resemble. The movie/TV industry likes to work up here for many reasons.
1 We are close enough to Hollywood so that they do not need to pay the crew any of the away from home fees.
2) It looks like every other part of the country and if you do not have a palm tree in front of your house you have a chance to get paid when they use your house during production.
3) TV/movie people like to live here because we have so many police and fire personal living in the area and then working for departments all over Southern California.

The bear on the California state flag actually roamed part of the city and was shot just east of the city. It was huge and stood about 10 feet tall when it stood on its hind feet. It weighed more than 10 average people. This beautiful animal was mounted and moved to Sacramento for display.
This is home to Magic Mountain (the amusement park and not the mountain). It was originally built by two organizations, Sea World and Newhall Land And Farming. It was devised as a way to make more money from the land, than the farming. Newhall Land had become more of a land developer then a farm company by that time, anyway. Sea World has disappeared as a company, with all of its parks now under different ownership and Magic Mountain is part of the Six Flags Corporation. (They never change the number of flags like some college sports leagues.) Yes I know that this is on the County side of the freeway but only the tax collector really cares about that.
So Happy Birthday. Where is the birthday cake?
