The time has come for that weird holiday tradition: Black Friday. It is traditionally the start of the holiday buying season. It was always the day after Thanksgiving. Yet this year, more than in the past, it is being stretched out and started out earlier than ever. At first it was the ads that were “leaked’ early, now it has some stores starting early. Last year it was continued and some ads were for that Saturday. More places are open on Thanksgiving or starting the sale at midnight on Friday.
The part that most upsets me is the apparent lack of respect of the retail worker by the people who run these companies. How many of them actually had to work these sales? I think that they should be made to work the worst hours in the busiest departments. The truth is that the items on sale would be just as valuable to the customers if they were to start the sale at 8 am. It seems that a war is going on to position merchants as the first one people will visit. I have seen stores opening at midnight, 3am, 4am and 5am. They know that if they are first the people will spend all of their money with them and not visit anyone else.
Do you think that it is worth it to spend Thanksgiving night in a parking lot, to get some electronic gadget that you really can do without? My plan is to spend the time sleeping and if something is that great I will chance it and come in later in the day. If I do not get it now I will find it later. Besides someone will have another sale and many of the items on sale seem to be items that are going out of style very quickly.
Well enjoy Black Friday and I do hope that you can get what you want, without any trouble.
